SOUTH AFRICA, Boksburg (April 2025) — John Deere is expanding its motor grader offering in Africa with the introduction of the G-tier motor graders, strengthening a portfolio that continues to support a wide range of applications, operator preferences, and business needs.
With the P-tier motor graders already well established in the region, this addition brings customers even greater flexibility when selecting machines aligned to their operations.
A Portfolio Built Around Choice
John Deere motor graders have long supported different operator preferences, including mechanical (antler rack), fingertip, and joystick control options.
With the introduction of the G-tier, the portfolio now evolves into a more purpose-aligned structure:
- G-tier motor graders — Designed around mechanical (antler rack) controls, delivering simplicity, durability, and ease of operation.
- P-tier motor graders — Offering advanced control options, including joystick and fingertip controls, for enhanced precision and productivity.
This approach ensures that customers can confidently select machines that best match their operational needs and operator experience, while continuing to benefit from the proven performance of John Deere motor graders.
A Broader Line-Up for Every Application
The expanded portfolio now includes:
- 6 x G-tier motor grader models - 620 G-Tier, 622 G-Tier, 670 G-Tier, 672 G-Tier, 770 G-Tier, 772 G-Tier.
- 8 x P-tier motor grader models - 620 P-Tier, 622 P-Tier, 670 P-Tier, 672 P-Tier, 770 P-Tier, 772 P-Tier, 870 P-Tier, 872 P-Tier.
This range gives customers the ability to select machines based on:
- Jobsite requirements
- Operator experience and preference
- Desired level of technology
- Budget and fleet strategy
Built for African Conditions
From remote road maintenance to large-scale infrastructure development, African operations require machines that can be tailored to both the job and the operating environment.
G-tier motor graders offer a practical, configurable solution built around mechanical control simplicity. Customers can tailor their machines with options such as Auto Shift or Auto Shift PLUS transmissions, Premium Circle configurations, blade impact systems, and a range of operator comfort and visibility features, including rear-view cameras and enhanced cab configurations.
This allows contractors to equip machines specifically for their operating conditions — whether prioritising durability, ease of maintenance, or operator familiarity — while maintaining a straightforward, proven machine architecture.
P-tier motor graders, by contrast, are engineered around a fully integrated control and automation platform. Features such as Auto Articulation, Auto Pass, Machine Presets, Machine Damage Avoidance, and Auto-Shift PLUS, combined with joystick or fingertip controls, are designed to reduce operator input, improve grading precision, and enhance overall productivity.
Inside the cab, a next-generation operator environment — including an 8-inch touchscreen display, climate-controlled HVAC, adjustable armrests, and heated and ventilated seating — supports operator comfort and performance during long working hours.
By supporting different operating styles, John Deere helps teams achieve consistent results across varying skill levels and applications.
Greater Flexibility Across the Line-Up
With multiple motor grader models available across both G-tier and P-tier, customers can align machines to specific job requirements, optimise fleet composition and utilisation, balance technology and investment levels, scale operations with confidence.
The addition of the G-tier motor graders reinforces John Deere's commitment to delivering solutions that are relevant, reliable, and ready for Africa's evolving infrastructure demands.
