John Deere Easy Change 30-second oil change system

The John Deere Easy Change 30-second oil change system makes changing the engine oil easy, quick, and clean. Changing the oil is as easy as removing the old oil-filled filter and twisting on a new oil-filled filter. Oil does not need to be drained from the engine. The removed filter contains the captured contaminants and a portion of the engine oil. Easy Change is standard equipment on the E120, E130, E150, E160, E170, and E180.

The contoured dash has clean, attractive styling:

Controls are color-coded and labeled for easy identification by the operator.
Controls are logically placed and easy to reach.
The hourmeter makes it easy to tell when oil changes and other maintenance should be performed.

The service reminder feature will indicate that a general lubrication or mower/engine service interval has been reached.
When service is required, arrows will periodically flash for two hours.

MOWER DECK HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT

Increments of 0.25-in. (0.64-cm) allow for fine-tuning the cut height.

An easy-to-use cruise control option maintains the tractor's speed for mowing larger areas:

To engage, lift up on the cruise lever and hold it until the foot is removed from the forward pedal.
To disengage, lightly press and then release the forward pedal.
For emergency stops, cruise can be released by pushing on the brake pedal or pushing down on the cruise control lever.

John Deere Easy Change 30-second oil change system

The John Deere Easy Change 30-second oil change system makes changing the engine oil easy, quick, and clean. Changing the oil is as easy as twisting on a new oil-filled filter. Oil does not need to be drained from the engine.

The John Deere Easy Change filter is an additional engine oil reservoir. Changing the filter removes the captured contaminants and replaces about 0.8 qt (0.76 L) of engine oil. Compared to the 100 Series traditional oil filter, the Easy Change oil system uses a synthetic filter media material, has more filtering capacity and more oil flow capacity, and the engine system has 40 percent more oil volume.

Everyone who uses the John Deere Easy Change system saves time and avoids the mess of a traditional oil change. In the past, many 100 Series Lawn Tractor owners rarely or never got around to changing their engine oil. With John Deere Easy Change, even owners who previously would not consider changing the oil themselves can easily do it now. The Easy Change 30-second oil change system is a no-mess, no-fuss solution the competition cannot match.

Installation instructions are in the Operator’s Manual and in the John Deere Easy Change service part box.

Please recycle. Many local government recycling programs, authorized retailers, auto-service centers, and auto-parts stores will puncture and recycle used oil filters and oil.

Lift the hood. Make sure the engine is cool, then, twist to remove. It’s that simple.

Step Two. Twist and lock.

"Grab" the new Easy Change™ Canister, twist and lock into place. Make sure the arrow on your Filter System aligns with the arrow on your engine.

Step three. Done.

Close the hood and mow. John Deere recommends the Easy Change™ 30-second Oil Change System every 50 hours or at the end of your mowing season. Don’t drain engine oil ever again.

Every owner of a John riding lawn and garden product is a potential customer for a high-quality, affordable utility cart. Utility carts can be used to haul a variety of materials including firewood, lawn debris, sand, dirt, mulch, garden tools, plants, and bushes.

Utility carts are designed, painted, and decaled to be compatible with other John Deere equipment.

NOTE: For proper braking and operation, the loaded weight of the cart should never exceed the weight of the tractor, or other towing unit, plus the operator. The loaded weight of any equipment towed by an EZtrak™ or ZTrak™ mower should not exceed 250 lb (113.4 kg). See the appropriate vehicle pages for the weight of the vehicle and the mower deck.

7P Poly Utility Cart

The cart has a premium molded, high-density polyethylene box construction.
Compression molding process allows polyethylene to be the optimum thickness in all areas for superior strength and durability.
Polyethylene body will not rust or dent; it stays looking new longer.
0.75-in. (2-cm) x 2-in. (5-cm) stake pockets are molded in to make the addition of side extensions easy.
Two vertical 0.75-in. (2-cm) molded channels on each side allow easy use of dividers to separate the box into two or three compartments.
Ribs in the box bottom add strength and prevent the shovel from hitting bolts when emptying the cart.
Sloped tailgate design makes emptying the box easier; there is no tailgate to loosen or remove.

13 Steel Utility Cart

Every owner of a John Deere riding lawn and garden product is a potential customer for a high-quality, affordable utility cart. Utility carts can be used to haul a variety of materials, including firewood, lawn debris, dirt, sand, mulch, garden tools, plants, and bushes.

Utility carts are designed, painted, and decaled to be compatible with other John Deere equipment.

For proper braking and operation, the loaded weight of the cart should never exceed the weight of the tractor, or other towing unit, plus the operator. See the appropriate vehicle pages for the weight of the vehicle and the mower deck.

The 17-cu-ft (0.48-m³), 800-lb (363-kg) capacity or 350 lb (158 kg) when using swivel feature to dump 16YS Swivel Cart is unique in the lineup of John Deere carts in that it can be swiveled 120 degrees to either side for easier unloading. The operator can simply pull up next to where they want to dump the material and swivel the cart, eliminating the need to back up the cart.

1,000-lb (454-kg), 17-cu ft (0.48-m³) load capacity.
Cart has premium molded polypropylene box construction.
Polypropylene body will not rust or dent, staying new-looking longer.
0.75- x 2-in. (19- x 51-mm) stake pockets are molded in to make addition of side extensions easy.
Two vertical 0.75-in. (19-mm) molded channels on each side allow for easy use of dividers to separate the box into two or three compartments.
Ribs in box bottom add strength and prevent a shovel from hitting bolts when emptying the cart.
Sloped tailgate design makes emptying the box easier; no tailgate to loosen or remove.
Styling is compatible with other John Deere equipment.
16x6.5 pneumatic tires with turf tread give good flotation, shock absorption, and minimal rolling resistance.

The medium-priced 6.5-bu (229-L) Power Flow grass collection system expands versatility of the tractor.

The blower and fan are made out of polyethylene:

Power Flow is lightweight for easy handling and minimal effect on mowing smoothness.
It will not rust or corrode.
Fan and housing resist wear and abrasion caused by sand.
Contoured design gives a clean appearance and smooth grass flow.
Fan is driven with V-belt from a sheave added to the top right mower spindle.

Requirements and/or recommendations:

Front ballast is recommended when bagging, especially on hills or inclines.
Use of rear tow-behind attachments that could come in contact with the hopper assembly is not recommended when the hopper assembly is installed.

The MCS 6 attachment is designed to provide dump from the seat grass collection/expulsion for John Deere 100 Series and S240 Tractors equipped with the 2-bag material collection system (MCS). Operating tips for 54-in. (137-cm) mulching kit

Mulching:

Adjust baffle to the proper opening; the adjustable baffle can be moved to one of five positions to match conditions using the convenient wing nuts.
- When mulching grass, the operator should start with the baffle set in the highest position (greatest opening).
- In drier conditions or when mulching leaves, the baffle can be moved down to reduce the amount of material that is discharged.
- The holes in the adjustable baffle are intended for leaf mulching. When mulching dry leaves, the holes will allow some air and leaf particles to escape, reducing blowout in other areas of the mower. However, when mulching grass, these holes can be expected to plug.
Mow when grass is dry.
Observe the one-third rule.
- No more than one third of the grass blade should be cut off at one time. This allows more efficient mulching and will promote the continued good health of the grass. If the desired cut height cannot be achieved by cutting off one third, or there is clumping of the clippings, it may be required to cut higher. Wait a day, then lower the mower and make a second pass.
Mow at proper intervals - approximately every four to five days.
Always mow with sharp blades.
When using the mulch kit, clippings are held in suspension under the mower until the power take-off (PTO) is shut off or the engine speed is reduced to slow the mower blades. When ready to stop mulching, slowing the engine speed while continuing to drive over the cut area will allow the suspended clippings to fall and disperse more evenly over the lawn.

Tips for special situations:

If mulching performance is not satisfactory, raising the mower to increase cut height, even a little bit, will often make a big difference.
If excessive clippings appear at the left edge of the mower, the left rear mower lip should be removed (if the mower is so equipped). This will promote better distribution of clippings.

Side-discharging and using the Power Flow™ material collection system (MCS):

For side-discharging and using the 54C Power Flow MCS, remove the mulching attachment.
The special mulching blades may be used if satisfactory results are achieved. If not, remove and replace with standard blades.
Rubber front edges can be left on if side discharging, however, cut quality may be reduced slightly when mowing lush grass.

Bagging:

Remove mulching attachment and install the appropriate medium or high lift blade(s).

Installation and removal:

The 54-in. (137-cm) Tricycler kit can be easily removed while the mower is mounted on the tractor.

Only two cap screws and nuts, located at the front and right side of the mower, need to be removed.

This weight is constructed of cast iron and weighs approximately 42 lb (19 kg).

Some vehicles have built-in front and/or rear weight brackets to hang the weights on; others require a weight bracket that must be ordered separately.

X400/X500 Heavy-Duty Garden Tractors and X700 Series Tractors require the following parts when weights are installed on the front of the tractor:

One M147986 weight retaining rod (Parts)
Two M40461 spring clip (Parts)

Rear weight bracket

The rear suitcase weight provides extra ballast that is needed to reduce wheel slippage and increase snow-removal capability.

The rear weight bracket provides a tractor-mounted bracket for hanging two weights:

BG20627 replaces BG20022 and BG20499 rear weight brackets.
Clearance is provided for the carbon canister that is required on tractors sold in California.
BG20627 can be used in all applications where BG20022 and BG20499 were used.

Wheel weight mounting hardware for attaching one front wheel weight - BM17978

30-lb (13.6-kg) front wheel weight

One 30-lb (13.6-kg) cast-iron weight may be installed on each front wheel for additional stability when operating on hillsides or with heavy rear equipment.

Requirements:

Mounting may require drilling two holes in the wheel rim.
BM17978 mounting hardware kit is required for each weight.
